The
Animal Abuse, Injury & Death in Movies
Website

Many people love animals and movies both, myself included. However, it can often be upsetting if you care about animals to watch depictions of violence against animals on the screen. Many movies depict animals being harmed, and more sensitive viewers may be upset at these depictions. Often the portrayals are integral to plot or character development. Frequently, the violence or death occurs offscreen or is mildly portrayed. Sometimes, the violence is gruesome, gratuitious, and unwarranted.
I have often wished that a resource was available to warn moviegoers and video renters about movies that contain scenes of violence to animals. Since I have found none, I decided to start my own.
This site will list movies that contain scenes of violence in connection with animals. Movies that have no violence against animals will not be covered here. Keep in mind that there are many excellent movies that contain violent scenes related to animals that are important or necessary; this should not keep you from seeing a particular movie. However, it can be good to know exactly what to expect, or when to close your eyes if animal violence is upsetting to you. It can also be helpful to know which movies engage in too brutal and unnecessary scenes of harm to animals in order to avoid those movies.
The movies covered will depend a great deal on you. This website is being started with my personal knowledge in terms of movies I have seen, and with the help of several other people who have submitted lists to me. There will necessarily be many movies that neither I nor those helping get this site off the ground will have seen. That's where I am depending on you. If you have seen a movie not listed here which contains violent scenes involving animals, please e-mail me and let me know the information listed below.
This site is set up as a resource guide to help you make movie viewing decisions for yourself and your children. It will never be 100% complete, and because a movie is not listed here it does not mean that there are no depictions of violence involving animals in that particular movie.
Movies are divided up by decade of release, from the 1920s through the 2000s, and alphabetically by first letter of the title. Movies are listed alphabetically under the decade of release.
Under each movie title, the following information appears: year of release, country of origin, major stars. In addition, the following information is listed:
Type of animal(s) and type of violence
involved
Whether or not the violence is particularly
gruesome, and whether it occurs on or off camera
Whether or not the violence is integral
to the plot or character development of the movie
At what point in the movie the violent
scene(s) occurs, if known
How upsetting the violence is likely to
be, i.e., "Most adults should be able to handle this scene, but very
young children may have difficulty" or "This scene is likely to be very
upsetting to any animal lover".
Any other additional information that
may be helpful
If you wish to submit a movie or list of movies to be included, please be sure to include the above information in your e-mail. If you would like credit, please let me know what name you wish used and whether or not you wish it linked to your e-mail address.
If you see any inaccuracies (and there are bound to be some), broken links or other problems, please e-mail me and let me know.
Obviously, the information on this site
is subjective, and you may disagree with my and others' assessments.
Please use this as a guide and not as gospel.

Important Note
Due to problems with a misplaced password and with time constraints, I have been unable to update this site recently, and have also been unable to access and have now lost any e-mail sent in the last several months. I apologize sincerely for these difficulties. If you have e-mailed me with reviews or suggestions and have neither heard from me nor seen the movies you mentioned posted here, please e-mail me again. I have changed the e-mail address on this page and should now be receiving all e-mail. Thank you very much for your patience! Ginger-lyn Summer
